Siemens and Volta Trucks to electrify truck fleets
The two companies Siemens Smart Infrastructure and Volta Trucks have agreed on a strategic partnership for e- commercial vehicles. The aim is to speed up the transition to electric truck fleets in the future. The all-electric Volta Zero is also intended to help.

The new offer is to be designed in such a way that it requires only minimal upfront investment and no major technical knowledge. The plan is to provide infrastructure for complete electrification, tailored to the operational needs of Volta Trucks' customers.

The Xcelerator platform creates a marketplace

Back in June this year, Siemens launched Xcelerator, a new open digital business platform including a marketplace. "Through our partnership with Volta Trucks, we aim to jointly develop Transportation-as-a-Service solutions and offer Volta Trucks' customers higher availability, reliability through performance-based contracts, and lower energy costs," says Thomas Kiessling, chief technologist at Siemens Smart Infrastructure.

As part of the strategic cooperation, customers will be supported in the electrification of their fleet. The technical infrastructure of the facilities will be managed by Siemens, including the hardware and software required to operate the charging and power distribution infrastructure for Volta Zero fleets. Volta Zero is the world's first all-electric 16-tonne commercial vehicle, the manufacturer says. "To drive the electrification of urban logistics quickly and at scale, we need an operationally efficient electrification infrastructure that is precisely tailored to the needs of each fleet," recognises Essa Al-Saleh, Chief Executive Officer of Volta Trucks.

Load capacity is written in real time

Together, Siemens and Volta Trucks will manage the infrastructure and power capacity from the grid or from their own sustainable energy sources. Accordingly, the customer's total power demand will be captured and managed at the planning and installation stage so that load capacity is increased according to the real-time needs of the site, Siemens promises.
